This is the famous and exclusive Offelleria Tacchinardi recipe. When the third millennium started, Tortionata Tacchinardi had already been in existence for over 150 years.
This cake was first made in the mid-nineteenth century by Carlo Tacchinardi.
Not content with inventing the legendary recipe, which combined sweet almonds with the finest fresh butter the fields of Lodi could offer, that unforgettable master of the confectioner’s art also wanted to give it a name with a special meaning, something really exclusive… "Tortionata" is really a play on the words "Torta io nato" (literally "The cake from when I was born"), a reference to Carlo’s newborn son, Alessandro, who would later register that name and the firm’s trademark in 1885.
Although this delicious cake is true to the best traditions of Lombardy (just one example is the "sbrisolona" of Mantua) its flavour is truly unique, thanks to the balance of its ingredients.
The best fresh, local butter, almonds, just the right hint of lemon rind, icing sugar and wheat flour dough, all combine to make this cake so mouth-watering.
Naturally, Tortionata Tacchinardi is registered on the list of National typical products of the Lombardy Region and, equally naturally, it has won many prizes during the course of its history.
It goes very well with a dessert wine or a passito wine.
In addition to its delicious taste, the most famous Lodi cake has another merit: it keeps well, just naturally...
